Junkyard Groove was formed in the year 2005 and has become a mainstay in the Indian independent music scene. Founded by Chennai based singer-songwriter Ameeth Thomas, the band released its first studio album 11:11 in 2009. The album became a huge success and garnered a big fan base and won quite a few awards. Their song ‘Its Ok’ became a part of playlists on every English radio station in India. The song ‘Folk You‘ also won the AVIMA award for Feel Good Song of the Year (2010).
In April 2011 after a small hiccup, the band released the EP Nicer In A Minute. Out of the five tracks on the EP, the track ‘Say Goodbye‘ turned out an all-time favourite among JYG fans.
They have opened for international bands like Iron Maiden, Incubus, Prodigy and Robert Plant to name a few. The band has also performed at various festivals including Rock n’ India (2008), Nh7 Weekender (2010) and prestigious college festivals like Mood Indigo IIT Mumbai and Sarang IIT Chennai among others.
October 2013 saw the band release their second album Accidental Hero. “The album is my first new step out of my old life. It’s a journey about my life, my music, the band and people that come and go. Accidental Hero is the reflection of the present. Music is an emotion for me. Every song was written at different times. This is not a theme album like a lot of artistes do. For me, it’s just storytelling. It’s like reading a book to a kid,” shared Ameeth Thomas, who has written, produced and engineered the songs. The first single released from the album was ‘In your eyes’. The album also features tracks like 3 years, Simple Song, Release Me, Screw Control and Speed of Love.
The current line-up of Junkyard Groove features Ameeth Thomas on vocals and acoustic guitar, Joshua Mark Raj on guitars, Sajith Satya on bass and Shashank Vijay on drums.
